Hello all: I have been to Fall In and Cold Wars several times over the past years and have only gone on a Friday for the vendors and the flea market. This year I am staying at the Host with my son for the first time. He has just started showing interest in playing miniature games and has started painting ACW 28mm figures for his 8th grade project. We are in several classes on Friday and Saturday and should have adequate time to visit the vendors and the flea market. Unfortunately I did not sign up for any games at registration. Will there be open games that we can just show up and try? Will there be games going all evening on Friday/Saturday nights? Any hints for finding things to make this fun for him? Thanks, Skip |

You can register for games on site. As soon as you get your badge go the registration desk. Many games also accept walk ons. |

Yes, gaming goes on all evening Friday and Saturday, usually until the wee hours of the morning. And there are some games Sunday morning. As Dynaman says, many games accept walk ups. Just go to the table 15-20 minutes before the game starts and tell the GM you are interested and that you'd like to be put on a waiting list if they have one. Many many games will have open spots or pre-registered players who don't show; and the GM will be happy to have people he can fill his game with. Many games will be listed in the program as "Child Friendly'. If you are unsure, ask the GM beforehand. You are more than welcome to come spend your gaming time in the HAWKs room (Paradise). We have a lot of games that are kid friendly, and if you ask any of our members who can be found in their blue HAWKs shirt, they will be more than happy to help you find a seat in one of our games which will suit you and your son. |

Skip, what an excellent weekend for you and your son. And I'll say you can't do better than checking out the HAWKS room. They run great games for kids…….of all ages! |

We have spent a lot of time watching games and enjoying the excellent tables in the HAWKS room the last few times we have visited for the day. I will make sure to talk some people and see what is going on. There should be (there may be) some TMP badges that we can wear to connect with other members while at conventions and other events. I am really looking forward to the classes with my son. I didn't want him attending alone so we signed up together for a few. I know he is excited! Thanks for the responses, Skip |

Stop by the HAWKs room. We'll find room in a game for you. |

Another thing you can try, if there are no more tickets then, go to the game an ask the GM if you can play. H e may say yes or you can get in if someone does not show (which seems to happen quite a bit.) |

Yep, there's always games. Either there are tickets available, or a GM will have space occasionally to game. Also if you check out the tournament area at night there's a ton of people just gaming as well. |

@Skip…. You should still be able to go into your account and "add" games to your badge. Please follow the instructions on the website so you do not accidentally buy more badges. It is great to grow the hobby and I thank you and everyone else for coming! |

+1 to visiting the HAWKS room. FYI, if your son is painting ACW figures for his school project and there are other students at his school interested in painting and gaming, you should consider asking HMGS for a grant to start a gaming club at your son's school (if you haven't done so already). Information on starting a club can be found at the HMGS web site. You can also talk to members of the HMGS Board at Fall In. They'll be the ones in the baseball caps that say "HMGS". Hope to see you there. |

I didn't realize that HMGS would help to start a school club. It is his last year at this school so I don't know how much interest there would be. He built a Tamiya 1/16 RC Panther for his 7th grade project and really enjoyed that. Painting that and seeing me paint miniatures peaked his interest in doing his own. Thanks, Skip |

The ODGW Game Room will have Mein Panzer Jr. and Mein Zombies games running… Both are great games for kids and adults. Check us out when you get there! |

FYI, HMGS makes grants to parent-teacher organizations to help start up gaming clubs around the country. Skip, you can ask for assistance in starting a club at your son's current school or his next one (or both). Good luck. |

Wally's Basement is always good for a browsing. Bring a flashlight. Also, me and Mrs Carp will be set up Saturday afternoon, me with a variety of games and rules and books and…. and she with some very reasonable very shiny very sparkly very affordable bribes/gifts for wargaming widows. Take something home for your spouse. Or, if she's here gaming with you, buy her a sparkly to wear to go out to dinner. |

You can register for games on site. As soon as you get your badge go the registration desk. Just to clarify: When you register for games onsite, you go to the Events Desk, not the registration desk. The Events Desk will be (if nothing changes from the last two or three conventions) at the bottom of the stairs that lead to the ballroom entrance. You will see it on your left as you come down the stairs. At Fall-In! you'll be able to register for one game onsite for each day. We'll be glad to help you do that. Just look for the fluorescent T-shirts. At the Events Desk each hour we also put out unclaimed tickets, free for the taking, for the games that begin at the end of that hour. All in the interest of getting as many players to as many games as possible. Makes us GM's happy, too! And be sure to follow all the good advice already given about showing up at games and asking the GM whether there's any room for walk-ins. Also, heed the words about the H.A.W.K.S. All true. (Full disclosure; I'm not a member but I do put on games at their Barrage conventions in September.) |
