"Mil mujeres se reunieron hace 150 años frente a lo que hoy es la Catedral Metropolitana de Asunción.


Su objetivo era votar por la creación de una serie de comisiones regionales encargadas de recolectar las donaciones de joyas y alhajas de mujeres de todo Paraguay, destinadas a "aumentar los elementos bélicos de la heroica defensa de la patria", según actas de la época.

Esta reunión del 24 de febrero de 1867 es considerada la primera asamblea femenina de Sudamérica y la razón por la que Paraguay festeja el Día de la Mujer en una fecha distinta al 8 de marzo…."
