I am seeking information/pictures of Dutch, Hessian, and Hanoverian general's uniforms for the Nine Year War, 1688-1697.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Terry

According to C A Sapherson Dutch generals wore pretty much whatever they wanted up through the WSS. One suggestion is the uniform of their personal regiment with braid and feathers around the hat. I haven't read anything about the others.

Thanks Shagnasty, I saw that, but then you ave to figure out which general went to which regiment, which I am working on too so I can hopefully come up with a few. Seems such info for this time period is very rare. :-(

I tend to paint my LoA generals in whatever uniform comes to mind- blue coats, red coats, grey coats, always plenty of gold lace and feathers in their hats. As I understand it there were no regulations for senior officers, so pretty much at the whim of the individual. I do tend to have British in red and my Dutch are mainly blue or grey/white reflecting the colour of uniforms in infantry and cavalry units.

I painted my Dutch generals largely in 'civilian' clothes with gold/silver lace and big orange sashes. The exception I've made, so far, is Solms, who is depicted as a senior officer of the Blue Guards.
