All,
As part of a current commission, I am painting up the Witch King and his Fell Beast from the Pelannor Fields boxed set. As usual with GW, it is difficult to tell what color the beast should actually be. Dark green, dark grey, black? Any ideas?

I did my 10mm ones in dark grey, with some dry brush over them and then a coat of nut brown ink.

Your client probably expects the colors in the film version. With a satin or semi-gloss finish, like the sheen on a skink or even a glass "snake" (lizard). In other words not too shiny.

If it helps, the original painting guide in White dmDwarf said they used an mix of equal amounts of dwarf flesh and codex gray with a little chaos black added. Then they added chaos black to shade and bleached bone to the original mix for a highlight.

Since I use craft store paints, that doesn't help at all, but thanks.

Sure it does. Let me find my craft store to GW converter.

Base colour is 50% basalt gray with 50% sand. Shaded by adding black, highlighted by adding buff or bone, depending on range.

That is great, thanks.

Wow, Ed! Talk about helpful. I need a copy of that paint translator!
