Where in the U.S. can this be commonly purchased? Michael's doesn't have them.

I don't think they are common on the ground here in Virginia, but I could be wrong.

I picked a bags worth of Black Sage many many years ago near Gunnison Colorado. It's quite plentiful in the Southwest. It naturally looks like miniature trees. The bigger branches even have some twists on them looking like tree trunks.i just add foliage and base them on plasticard. They look great.

Sorry. That probably doesn't help you much.

Wow. I just looked up Black Sage. The images do not look like what I have. Maybe I have something else or some other type of sage or sagebrush.

If you mean "seafoam", like the stuff in Scenic Express' "Supertrees" kits …

… then the spindly "trunks" and branches might need a little reinforcing with gesso, liquid latex or even hot glue gun.

Sage and sagebrush are different types of plant. Sagebrush is used to make model trees

By the way, I was going to order two or three of these 35 cm long branches (sold singly and not as a bunch) and see if I could make 3 or 4 trees out of each. And, if it works, I'd buy more.

They are only $1.23 USD per stem/branch, so what have I got to lose, right?

They would be the trunks and seafoam or something like it would be the branches.

Dan
PS. I'm still trying to figure out how big these other ones are:

Well, well, it sounds like you just found yourself a goldmine!

Gorgeous trees!

CC, that photo is not sage brush. There are several model RR dealer who sell it, but it is expensive. My trees are made from sage armatures with seafoam branches.
You've seen enough of my work to judge.

nevinsrip, not sure which picture your referring to but the picture that Hlaven linked to is sagebrush.

nevinsrip03 Oct 2018 12:00 a.m. PST

No, not Hlaven. The link that CC provided is not sagebrush.

Hlaven's tree is fabulous. You need to start selling that stuff.
