I recently ordered some 1/600th decals from Dan Arute of Flight Deck Decals in the USA.

I only discovered this range recently but, in the extended absence of Dom's Decals, I was happy to give them a try for my 1/600th scale aircraft projects.

I was after some pretty obscure insignia, Ecuadorian and Indonesian markings, so didn't expect to find anything but to my surprise he had both (the Ecuador ones being RAF B1 roundels) and many more besides.

The price was very reasonable, even including postage to the UK, so I popped in an order expecting delivery in a few weeks. Instead, they arrived in a few days and with a nice note from Dan to say thanks for the order.

The decal are very good, with high resolution and really good colour, and you get loads on each sheet, more than enough for my needs and in three sizes as well. I am very pleased with the product and the excellent service form Dan, who seems like a very nice chap.

I have now commissioned yet more obscure decals (Egyptian roundels and fin flashes for 1948-49) to fill the gap in my Wings at War Desert Spitfires project that was stalled because of the lack of insignia. Dan has a challenge on his hands with these, as they are very tiddly and have tiny stars and crescents in the central disc, but I have no doubt he will do his best.

If your are looking for decals in 1/600th or 1/285th then you need look no further, especially as Dan will make some if you need something that's not already in his catalogue.

If you were wondering, the Indonesian Ecuadorian pineapple war of 1972 was very short and overshadowed in the international press by the military coup in Bongolesia.

Thanks for the link, boggles. What a great site, since it has 1/2400 naval decals as well. Don't know how I missed it before.

I forgot to mention the naval decals…they look splendid!

Neat.

Do they fit the slightly smaller, OO/Pico aircraft well?

Yes I should think so. I used the middle sized roundels on these Tumbling Dice planes and there is a smaller sized roundel included on most sheets, which would be fine for the O8 / Pico planes. I have some O8 modern jets and have compared them to the sheet…looks fine to me.

These are the middle sized roundels on my TD aircraft:
