"Taliban insurgents killed so many Afghan security forces in 2016, an average of 22 a day, that by the following year the Afghan and American governments decided to keep battlefield death tolls secret.

It's much worse now. The daily fatalities among Afghan soldiers and policemen were more than double that last week: roughly 57 a day.

Seventeen years after the United States went to war in Afghanistan, the Taliban is gaining momentum, seizing territory, and killing Afghan security forces in record numbers….."

Yes but what is the death toll for the Taliban or should I say the drug lord security forces. The fighting takes a heavy toll on the other side as well.

they definitely need to go on offensive . no mention of the quality of the afghan forces. no mention of how they are going to curb this trend. nice article. too much tribalism over there. they need to get there act together.

Afghanistan is such a tribal hellhole that the only time the tribes stop feuding at company-scale firefights (complete with support weapons) is when the Army rolls some tanks through.

Pretty sure the only way to stop the tribal feuding is for all the tribes to die.

Perhaps some should adopt their methods of fighting, sneak over the border into Pakistan when no one is suspecting, and do what is needed to get their attention.

Place evidence incriminating rival factions, or internal dissidents, and then slip back over the border into the night.

Two can play at that game…….

Taking the fight to their "secure" base of operations is a war-winner.

Making them paranoid is just icing on the cake.
