We had a complete breakdown in the food department in 1991. Prior to entering Kuwait we were getting one MRE, one hot meal, and breakfast. The breakfast steadily went downhill until one breakfast consisted of a pineapple ring and a mouthful of the juice. The hot meal was always rice and something else; beef, chicken, or more rice. In combat we ate just MREs. After the war we raided the chow hall and got away with a case of bread, a two foot long can of Spam, and a large can of mustard. Ate great for two days. The Marine Corps learned a lot from that war. |
