Depends on whether they're the bad guys or the good guys. Hey, it's a movie. When considering history, there's something to be said for the Pax Romana. And a great deal to be said against the methods used to achieve it. "All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?" |

The Romans were pretty bad, per se, but so were a lot of others from that period. Does not make some of the things they did excusable, justified, etc. They were very much "in line" with many of those of that time. And it was not generally very good. Of course it really does depend who they are fighting …  And my DNA says I'm @ 70% Italian … so I may be a little biased … 
My favorite comment about the Romans. Was when the series "ROME" was on HBO. One of the producers or writers said they had to reduce all the sex and violence that actually occurred at that time. So it could be aired …
