One of our readers once said about TMP:

Far too many people sharing problems inappropriate to a wargames site. I don't want to read about your illnesses, job issues or dead pets. Some things should be kept private. Very odd to share such issues with strangers.

Do you agree?

Winston Smith14 Sep 2018 7:28 p.m. PST

No.

Just my 2 cents

Agree with Disaster.

Even "in the TMP Talk area or general boards" I'm okay most of the time, as long as we are talking normal life stuff. And, by "normal" I mean the norm.

So, on a "family oriented" wargaming site I wouldn't be talking about my intimate parts with everyone else though. Nor would I want to hear about someone else's. There are other forums and websites for that sort of odd exhibitionist stuff.

Like Disaster, I don't mind so long as these things stay in the non-wargaming boards.

Our societies are somewhat dysfunctional, in that many of us don't have family or tribe nearby to fall back on. How do you get Vallejo paint out of your good slacks before the wife comes home? Can't ask mom--but maybe somebody on TMP knows.

Grelber: "How do you get Vallejo paint out of your good slacks before the wife comes home?"

People wear good slacks when they paint?

Why else do people keep asking "What color Vallejo matches the $18.99 USD khakis at Walmart?"
They want to cover up the Violet Brown spots.

If it has nothing to do with wargames then I'm not interested

I have no problem with it.

TMP is more than just a site about playing with toy soldiers, it is a community. And like any community, some talk about what a crappy day you had, or that old girlfriend of yours, or whatever, takes place.

No problem at all with it.

If someone doesn't want to know about my colonoscopy, no one is forcing them to open a topic titled "My Colonoscopy!" Or look at the pictures of the interior if ny colon that I share. Perfect health, BTW, thank you so much for asking.

My gut response is that I disagree. I think Disaster said it well.

I would add, that too many political discussions get a by here. And there seems to be a bias about which views gets dawghoused.

I have read some really depressing stuff on the plus boards, so I just try to avoid it. I do not come here to get depressed. Angry, sure but depressed no. Angry can sometimes be funny, interesting and entertaining (at least back in the "Golden Age" of TMP.) But depressing is none of those.

If a topic or comment whatever it is does not interest you, etc. … move on to another.

Cacique Caribe31 Oct 2018 5:23 p.m. PST

Agreed.

Or, better yet, start one yourselves, to create a discussion on whatever other things you guys do like.

Do you agree?

Yes, I agree. The political bias should be addressed too, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

14Bore03 Nov 2018 4:29 p.m. PST

Politics between family isn't good, I don't even with co-workers.
But life can be hard at times so a place for life comes at you fast is a good thing.
