That's My best guess. They are in the colder part of the world. Perhaps their machinery keeps freezing up? Jokes aside, I am continually baffled as to their classic doctor who release schedule. I know they must be bound by their bbc contract to do things a certain way, and from a customers standpoint it must be a pocket friendly approach. Yet whenever (perhaps too often?) I visit their vortex site, all I see are more modern releases and few classic. Many of the classic releases are not, to me, the obvious big sellers. Still no Daleks. Even the special weapon is incorrect (the modern version?). Cybermen wise they are doing ok (perhaps the best story? Or close to), but dominators (a personal Fav) and tetraps so on would not be on the top of my best seller list. This may be the point as they may be testing out sales potential. Further frustration comes with modern zygons, sontarons, Daleks, so on. Classic please Mr Warlord (actually, on that note, how about the Warlord, and War cheif? Go on). Rant rant, woffle woffle… |

Honestly, give 'em time. The range seems to be building quite nicely, and they are lovely sculpts but they have an understandable bias towards gameable miniatures from the classic and modern eras. Classic Daleks are probably going to happen at some point, in plastic, but the big question is which version of the classic they choose to cover their bases best, and then cover the rest in metal in a collectors set like the Cybermen. The Special Weapon Dalek is as it was last seen (hence accompanying the modern Dalek Supreme…). The actual prop was the original built for "Remembrance of the Daleks" but had been subject to repairs and refurbishment over the intervening nearly 30 years having been a display piece at various Dr Who exhibitions. Perhaps we'll see the original version in a Remembrance box set? Just looking at their Doctor and Companions releases, there are some obvious gaps which look very deliberate. No Sarah Jane with the Fourth Doctor..? She was his quintessential companion, but she also overlaps to the Third who is a little short on a companions front. However, give him Liz Shaw, Jo Grant, Sarah Jane, the Brig and Benton and you've hit the number you need… I suspect Six and Seven may have to share a box set with Peri, Mel, Ace and some good intentions… |

Re: Sarah Jane – also need a modern version of her (mature SJS), as she appeared in the modern series as well as the classic series (young SJS). |

In fact Sarah could have her own box, or 2 due to her spin off shows. The classic Daleks should be easy. As Daleks are duplicates, save for poor prop handling dings and scratches. They could easily do a single Dalek sprue with modular parts with several options for each. Eg a 3 part generic skirt, Thin or thick bumper base, slatted or banded mid section, several arm options, Top grill, a few lid options with different ears, movable eye or two. Easy. That would let you biuld almost every basic classic Dalek. Perhaps add a few extras like the invasion dish and destiny bombs, maybe a burning and ozzing Top options to go on too of the skirt. Get 5 such sprues in a box and your done… But then you could use the sprue as a base with Metal bits to make davros, at least a couple of times, special weapon, ian, burning, exploded so on. I do wonder if we will be seeing the evil of the daleks toy Daleks, Wishful thinking perhaps. Then there are the movies… |
