When someone is asking questions about a game you hate do you
A: move on and ignore it
B: jump in and tell them why they shouldn.t be playing that game and suggest what you prefer instead.

Seeing that you are from Georgia, you should realize that the correct answer is "well bless your heart."

If you got something to say then say it otherwise move on.

I.m still just amazed when someone says "I've decided on XYZ game so where do i get" ther is always a reply suggesting another game.

The Nigerian Lead Minister09 Sep 2018 7:00 a.m. PST

Long ago it would be B. Then I realized I was just being an ass so now it's A. I might read to see why they made that choice but then I move on.

A. It doesn't matter if it's a game or product I don't like. I decide to answer based on my knowledge of the subject matter.

If I can't contribute because I don't know anything or can not help then I move on.

A., though I'm afraid I did violate that principle in the past. Now a days, I just move on.

Of course, if I know the question can't be resolved or isn't covered by the game in question, I might say that. For example, "Game X restricts you to preset formations. If you want to create your own formations, you'll need to house rule it, or try a different game, like Y or Z." Truthful, helpful, and not disparaging.

I believe I know the fellow D6 is referring to and it is simply the way he is. You just have to grin and move on although often the grin is more of a grimace.

I consider it more "steering them in the right direction……"

There are reasons to like and dislike all sets of rules out there. I'm not afraid to say that Newbury Fast Play Ancients were hideously complicated, and that the name itself is an oxymoron. Of course they came out in the early 80s, so maybe I won't affect sales that much. grin
But I also think that FoW V4 is a step in the wrong direction. Oddly, I see that as justified from a business perspective. Just about all the books, supplements, lists, codices whatever for V3 that could be written had been done. What was left? Japanese invasion of the Philippines? So I will speak out. I also am well aware that I'm starting to get annoying about it. grin

If they've already made a choice, then A--doubly so if it's a question about some point within the rules. If someone invites an opinion about rules directly, by asking for suggestions or by one of those big cheerful announcements that Hot New Rules Edition 4.2 had been "released"--well, I always have opinions, and sometimes express them, though I try to be civilized.

("Released" in quotes because I sometimes suspect "escaped" or "unleashed" might be more accurate.)

C. I don't hate games.

My rule is not to criticize unless I have something better to offer. So I might say "I prefer RulesetX -- in the same genre -- for the following reasons…"

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP09 Sep 2018 11:13 a.m. PST

I'm with with etotheipi.

There are games that I don't enjoy playing. If I have information that will help the person asking questions about a game in that category, I'll provide it.

cosmicbank09 Sep 2018 12:06 p.m. PST

I bash them and the game, destroying them until they give it up them buy it on eBay cheap and play it.

Answer their original question as best I can. If appropriate might suggest other systems that might suit their needs based on their question

I say something like, "I didn't care for them but others like it".

ToysnSoldiers10 Sep 2018 8:41 a.m. PST

I know I won't be objective, therefore A.

Old Contemptibles10 Sep 2018 5:44 p.m. PST

C. I state my opinion, then move on. If you don't want an answer, then don't ask.

QUATERMASS02 Apr 2022 10:33 a.m. PST

Dependent on my mood!
Question's deserve answer's
If your going to buy a GW game i will speak my mind and if we talking face to face I'll probably rude about it.

snurl123 May 2022 11:12 p.m. PST

A. I don't like or play that game so why comment?

Personal logo Old Contemptible Supporting Member of TMP13 Jun 2022 11:02 p.m. PST

Depends if it is a game or a set of rules.

Personal logo Old Contemptible Supporting Member of TMP14 Jun 2022 2:02 p.m. PST

A

If it is a game I don't play or rules I don't use. I ignore it.
