"Soldiers from a Colorado National Guard space battalion who visited the Pentagon on Wednesday said they have no idea what role, if any, they would have in the Space Force that President Trump has proposed.

But they did provide a glimpse into the daily grind of space warfare.

When they are called up for duty, soldiers from the 117th Space Battalion go to war zones to help commanders on the ground get what they need from space: satellite imagery, weather analysis, early warning of a missile launch, communications and navigation…"

So the battalion essentially provides specialists to line units to help the line troops utilize space assets (notably GPS and satellite comms). Not very "spacy" but also doesn't seem to have anything to do with protecting our space assets or degrading the enemy's.

Whoever wrote that article is either an idiot or there's some really weird stuff going on.

First: A team consists of two officers and 4 enlisted.
Then: "…Staff Sgt. Joseph Fauskee, an intelligence officer in charge of one of the Army's space support teams…"

So, a staff sergeant is in charge of a team that includes two officers? Or is an NCO considered an officer by this writer?

Yeah … don't know if the author knows the difference between a Commissioned Officer and NCO ? Or probably a WO for that matter ?

Now if this is true and it probably is(?), this makes some sense how a US ARMY "Space" Bn functions and its duties, etc., would be. No SST or Space Marines, etc., per se …

However, I think the designation is a bit off, unless it is an OPSEC thing ? Maybe being called an Aerospace Defense Bn, would be more accurate ?
