So… I picked up a great 6mm ACW collection. I just got some 6mm buildings for them, but honestly they are just too big… at the smallest scales, I like the terrain to be a bit smaller, and to use it in groups. Anyone here collect 6mm ACW and got some examples of their buildings? Anyone use smaller scale buildings with 6mm? Any advice/experiences from anyone in the 6mm crowd? |

I find that 6mm (and even 10mm) fit well with 1/300 scale terrain. |

Irregular has some 2mm terrain (mostly European, though) with towns and villages and whatnot that I always thought was amazing. Agree on smaller terrain. |

If I'm doing skirmish games I always use the same scale buildings as the figures for everything else I use the next scale down for buildings eg 6mm buildings for 10mm figures Try and get some 2mm samples from either Irregulars or Brigade Models See brigademodels.co.uk/SmallScaleScenery/index.html Another option might be to use the houses and hotels from Monopoly which I think are somewhere in between 2mm and 6mm |

Full size 6mm buildings never look right with 6mm figures, unless 1 model = 1 man. And that's rarely the case in a 6mm game. Usually a base of figures is representing a couple hundred or more. Maybe even a thousand or more troops. We use roughly 3mm paper buildings. Free to download and print out. Our club generally does this with any era of wargaming--we shift the terrain down one size. So in 15mm WW2 games where a base is a platoon, we'll use 6mm terrain for that. link |

I would go for 6mm models with a small footprint, such as those by Total Battle Miniatures and Leven Miniatures. |

I purchase paperterrain.com buildings then scale them down to 75-80% size then build them. |

PaperTerrain's 6mm range is awesome!I use them with Perrys' Travel Battle (8mm) figures. Hope that the picture upload works …

I agree with Alan. Most buildings on ACW wargame battlefields are there for aesthetic reasons and will not impact on play, so why not represent them in 6mm? |

Hey all! Thanks for the input and help! Yeah, I might go with smaller buildings, just because I like doing town bases… the paper stuff, I'm just not sure I could do them justice! I'll give them a look:) |

One last item, take a look at forwardmarchstudios.com/. He's selling the designs for 3D printed buildings in 3mm scale. I've been in contact with him and you can scale up the drawings to whatever size you need then have a master of each building printed at Shapeways, etc. You can then use those masters to cast many copies (for your personnel use only) of the buildings. Check his web site. Dale |

I do my own buildings for 6mm 1/300 though I make them at about 1/400 to reflect the smaller base scale but the same height scale
