On a recent visit to Chester I took time to take a look at Chester Military Museum, home to the 22nd Cheshire Regiment among others.

The museum has some really interesting items that cover a long period dating back to the founding of the Cheshire Regiment in 1689.

Jonathan,

Thank you very much for that. I hope my affiliation is obvious. (I have ancestors who were among those naughty Cheshire archers too – great website for rooting around in medievalsoldier.org/.)

Best,

Jon

I live there, but in the nature of things have not been into this museum for many years. Obviously there's been a lot of revamping but I was pleased to see the venerable Meeanee diorama is still there.
Back in the 70's the museum was housed in a tower on the opposite side of the car park and which presumably was a bit of the original castle.

Thanks for your comments chaps, glad you enjoyed the read.

These posts of mine are a personal snap shot of the collections these museums hold, and I hope encourage those of us interested in the treasures they hold to go along and help support their continued existence for future generations.

There is far more to see than a blog post could ever attempt to show so do check them out if you get the opportunity.

JJ
