Nikephorian and Komnenan, so my Normanno-Italians can have someone good to fight.

Nikephorian. Love those Kataphracts!

Early and Nikephorian… I like to do all my armies in neat, compatible timeframes such as ~500AD and ~1000AD.

Justinian and Belisarius.

Do I have to choose? Love the middle period, but also the Komnenan restoration. If I had to choose one, it would be Komnenan. John Komnenus is my favorite emperor!

I had a Nikephorean army once. Never played it.

Another vote for Thematic, centuries of not refusing to accept that they should have been swept away long since :)

Early.

Early aka Belisarian Byzantine. Belisarius was an early hero, discovered in the 8th grade.

DeRuyter29 Aug 2018 11:57 a.m. PST

Belisarius and any that fought Sassanids

I think Maurikian/Thematic- bridges the Sassanian and Arab Wars.

I have Early and Komnenan – seemed easier to find opponents for them. I find many rules struggle with the Thematic cavalry formations.

I've considered getting a Maurikian or Thematic army, but there's to much else I want to do first.
