"Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game up for preorder" Topic

Games Workshop has revamped and rebranded the rules, under the banner of Middle-Earth SBG. A new starter box set, The Battle of Pelennor Fields, is available for Preorder.

This is a major commitment to a rule set lots of people considered dead, with the new rules and new models and I think bringing back some OOP models.

The box set includes:
-Full Size Hard backed Rules Manual
-King Theoden foot and mounted, NEW sculpts
-12 Riders of Rohan
-12 Warriors of Rohan
-20 Warriors of the Dead
-The Witch King on Fell Beast
-36 Morannon Orcs
-A Mordor Troll

Not to be left behind, Forgeworld will be adding new figures too. I think first up are reinforcements for Gondor

Also available for preorder is the Army book covering the LOTR movies. The Army book for the Hobbit will be out later, but the PDF is already availble for Download.

I've been using these figures with Age of Fantasy from OnePageRules. I like the GW rules for this, but would prefer a more generic set less tied to movies. I do not want to recreate battles from books and movies, but just things inspired by them.

I have been admiring a lot of GW boxed sets lately, but was happy to pre-order this one. I was interested in all the models except maybe the orcs, since mine are combinations of Moria Goblins and Uruk Hai Scouts. But maybe they'll add something.

Looks interesting. I'd be especially interested in the Warriors of the Dead, as I don't have any of those guys.

All the plastics are getting repacked into 24-count boxes, with a commensurate price-drop.

I'm hoping the Grim Hammers get the same treatment soon, but I'll be picking up several boxes of Warriors of Minas Tirith to start with.

I've been looking forward to this just about forever. The previous editions of LOTR were my favorite set of fantasy rules ever, and I'm excited to see the changes they've made. Not gonna go for the boxes set though as I don't need the models. The rulebook itself though? Shut up and take my money!

The huge commitment by Amazon for a TV series will boost exposure. Something like a 5-season commitment at appx $1 USD billion. Required by contract to be broadcast within 2 years or less, or something like that, to avoid too long of a lead time—Jeff Bezos wanted to capitalize on the Game of Thrones popularity.

We need a Hobbit like Tyrion.

We will have a box set available for a raffle at Recruits September 28-30. Since I can't enter I have already pre-ordered a box set plus the army list book. If by chance your in the Kansas City area we are also hosting a tournament using the new rules. I held the Theoden model in my hand and the mounted kit is one of the best plastic kits I have seen in a long time.

GW has a different definition of 'strategy' than I do.

As much as they abuse terms, the use of strategy here is not one of them. Strategy was used and not "strategic level". Go look at your dictionary.

I have to admit that I am not fond of the term, but they have been using the "Strategy Battle Game" term for their Middle-Earth games already from the Fellowship of the Ring (2001) boxed set onwards.

Got mine last night.

I have to finish what was already on my painting plate. But assembling these would be fun. Decisions!
