Thinking about buying some early HYW knights, both mounted and foot. What figures would you recommend?

KSmyth26 Aug 2018 6:19 p.m. PST

There are lots of figures available. I've used Old Glory, Perry and Front Rank.

I would recommend the Perry knights, both foot and mounted. They are consistently of high quality, well proportioned and detailed. They are available in plastic and metal, so choose what best suits your budget.

However, because life is sloppy and there are no easy answers, they do represent knights for the period 1400-1430 with white armor and jupons and probably wouldn't do for the early period of the HYW.

But if you aren't that picky they work. If I was starting over I would just buy Perrys. The plastic mounted knights are in the pre-production stage.

Front Rank are my pick.

FireForge. Whithout a doubt, they are the best.

The request was for early HWY, so the Perry minis are out for that…

Front rank has a number of suitable figures, but you'd have to be careful as the range extends into the 15th C (generally, the more armor the less suited to the early to mid 14th C). Foundry's HYW range has a lot of suitable figures for a Crecy era army, though!

Damon.

Thank you all! I've been looking at each site. I also looked at Mirliton which has some very expensive but spectacular personality figures which look good at tournament. Have you seen those?

I mixed Perry's and Front Rank. Very happy with them

Old Glory for Crecy is great. Cheap also.

Check out Claymore castings. They have a growing range focussed on the English and French and for the earlier period of the war.

Front Rank and Black Tree are large and work well together I think and they are nice figures.

I'd go claymore castings (they have a new name now but I can't remember it sorry). Really good minis and ita growing range.

Perry Miniatures and Front Rank are the best in my opinion. However for early HYW Old Glory are the best for variety and value. Fot the best detailed early HYW go with Front Rank, they have great personality packs as well.

Claymore are beautiful!
