50.000 Soviet Stalingrad Citizens fought side by side with the Germans?… this was confirmed by documents?…. link

Depends upon what Beevor's definition of ‘fought' is. In this article link (warning, quite lengthy) it is claimed that there were nearly a million ‘Hiwis' in the German rear areas towards the end of 1942. So 50,000 in the Stalingrad area does not seem impossible on that basis. |

This isn't forgotten at all. It's long been known that there were roughly 50,000 Soviet POWs and HiWis* caught in the pocket. *HiWis didn't fight they performed rear area tasks. |
