We asked – TMP link

In a recent poll, many of you said you've lost the passion for American Civil War gaming. Why?

7% said "my interests changed"
5% said "too many gamers with political viewpoints"
4% said "gamers ranting about political correctness" and "uniforms are boring" (tie)

38% said "I'm not dropping ACW"
15% said "I never got into ACW"

I am no math wiz but that doesn't exactly add up to a 100%.

Trajanus26 Aug 2018 1:54 a.m. PST

The other 31%, including me, said "what poll?"

GatorDave Supporting Member of TMP26 Aug 2018 5:10 a.m. PST

Never lost it never will. Just played an ACW game yesterday.

The point about strong political view points doesn't really register on this side of the pond. As outsiders looking in, the tin men of both sides are just so much more dice fodder, I guess.

jeffreyw326 Aug 2018 7:19 a.m. PST

Evidently, it doesn't register much on this side either…

Pan Marek26 Aug 2018 9:14 a.m. PST

The majority of responders are not dropping ACW. Only 16% said they are. 16% is not "significant".

This poll might NOT be a true indicator of how popular the period is today.

Based on the title of the poll ("Why Are You Dropping ACW?"), perhaps most of the ones who replied at all were those who have given it up. If I hadn't given it up and was still playing, I might not have bothered to check the poll.

This should have been worded something like this …
How many are still passionate about playing ACW?

And … it should include an option for those who are aren't playing but considering taking it up.

Everybody's giving up ACW because they're all busy playing ADLG. Cheers!

Ed Mohrmann Supporting Member of TMP27 Aug 2018 6:30 p.m. PST

ADLG ? I don't know if I can play it, but if you'll
hum the first few bars, I'll give it a shot…

What's ADLG? A Dinner Long Gone?

Only 5% said they were dropping it for political reasons. The rest are dropping it for same reasons anyone leaves any period. The ACW is always going to be popular. Defiantly a top 5 period to play.

I love the ACW period! Always have. Enjoying now more than ever thanks to ‘Pickett's Charge' and ‘Sharp Practice' Rules.
I try to avoid any ‘political' discussions on this war (or any other for that matter) but the ACW seems to really fire up some passionate opinions.
I always am happy to hear opposing views even if mine are now firmly entrenched on what I believe the reality was.
I simply nod politely and say ‘that's an interesting perspective…' and then suggest we roll some dice and move some Miniatures.
I have plenty of respect for the fighting men and many politicians of BOTH SIDES of this war.
It's easy to be judgmental 150 + years AFTER the war.
