I like a lot of different movies, books , etc. Some of them are good, others not so much. Now, not too many people will mock you for liking Citizen Kane*, but you might get looked at askance if you say you like David Lynch's Dune better than Frank Herbert's original novel**.
For the most part, this doesn't bother me. I like what I like, and don't generally feel bad about it. Once in a while, though, I do (or at least feel that I should). I've wanted to discuss the "guilty pleasure" for a while, but wasn't able to come up with a title that had the right balance of entertainment and shame; then I found a copy of the blu-ray of Heavy Metal.

For those not in the know, Heavy Metal was a 1981 animated anthology film which was composed of several different stories (or vignettes) taken from the eponymous comics magazine. It's pretty lurid stuff, chock-full of violence, nudity, bad words, drug use -- you name it; all set to songs by a murderer's row of 1970s metal bands. The segments were done by different studios , in different styles; the quality is pretty uneven. Also, the framing sequence doesn't really pull it into a coherent whole. None of that bothered me when the movie was on Cinemax back in the day, but now I like to think that I have standards.

So, what's on your list of stuff you feel (a little) bad about liking?

Ron

P.S. Link to Soft Landing clip from the film (one of the few I can actually link here; safe for work if your boss doesn't mind rock music).

* Though The Third Man was better.

** As I do.

My wife's guilty pleasure is 5th Element. A big reason why I love her so much.

Mine is probably Big Trouble in LIttle China.

Ridiculousness
Below Deck Mediterranean

Now those are guilty pleasures.

Gone Fishing24 Aug 2018 5:05 a.m. PST

Thundarr the Barbarian for me. It's mainly nostalgia, of course (that show hit all the right buttons for me as a boy), but I still like watching them now and then. I still find some of them rather good.

Oh, and I don't mind Ewoks nearly as much as most people!

HA! I like "Ridiculousness" too!! And there is just something about "American Pickers" that I can never seem to click past…

Rockabilly
Any and all old timey Americana music.
I would love to hear Carl Perkins do Golden Slippers!

Oh, darn it. I don't feel guilty about it at all! grin

My collegiate daughter and I recently watched all 4 seasons of the 2003-2007 prime-time teen soap opera, "The O.C."

Seasons 1-3 were really entertaining. There – I said it.

There is nothing guilty about enjoying Girls und Panzer!

I have no regrets or guilt, but here are some which I enjoy very much and have had to defend from time to time in actual conversation:

Battle Beyond the Stars
Green Slime
Star Crash
Voyage of the Rock Aliens

And the biggie that draws so much hate:
The Star Wars Holiday Special

Books more than movies and TV. Some Emily Loring. Some Elsie Lee. The early volumes of JD Robb.

To my guilty pleasures mentioned above, I would add:

-Doom I, which I occasionally play as a flash game, if I can find one that lets you strafe properly. I once got through all of The Ultimate Doom, starting each level with just a pistol. but I was young then.

-Two and a Half Men, which I started watching because my wife likes it and now I like it, too.

-Ancient Aliens, because of course everything comes from aliens: Invention of the wheel? Aliens gave it to us. Cooked food? Alien idea. Clothes? Aliens taught our ancestors. I love it.

@Skipper John: The pickers show how much they love their work that it's just infectious.

No one has said, "hookers and booze" yet.

I often put the Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life) song on repeat and let it play for an hour or more… ;-) (This is the soundtrack version from the Disney ride, not the shorter no-pirates-in-the-background version, though I have both.)

Kathleen E. Woodiwiss novels. I'm a romantic, what can I say.

Me also on Flash Gordon and Thundarr. I also love classic Disney animated films and their old school live action stuff, some of which have become impossible to find (The Watcher In the Woods, Blackbeard's Ghost, The Scarecrow).
The Flash tv series from 1990.
The Greatest American Hero
Star Trek Voyager "Captain Proton" episodes.
Godzilla movies, especially the "Godzilla vs. Whatever" ones!
"Dramedy" mystery series like Castle, The Murdoch Mysteries, Father Brown, and now Death In Paradise.

Books: Doc Savage pulp fiction.
Lord Darcy novels.
Edmund Hamilton SF action novels (Star Wolf, Captain Future)
Modern pseudo-military spacefleet novels series (Jack Campbell, Mike Shepherd, R.E. Meluch)
Tom Clancy novels.
Falkenberg's Legion novels (and other Pournelle/Niven quasi-libertarian SF)
The entire Destroyermen series by Taylor Anderson.

Though I don't really feel guilty about any of that!

I don't think I have any guilty pleasures since I'm not ashamed of anything I like, but when mentioning things I like here are some that cause the normies to roll their eyes:

Anime and manga – especially "slice of life" series.
prehistoric animals, reptiles, amphibians, etc. Many will ask, "Why do you want to know about that?"

Along with the anime and manga, I like kaiju films, and J-Pop and J-Rock. I'm not technically a weeaboo though, since I have no desire to be Japanese. More of an "otaku."

With J-Pop, which at times is hilariously cringe-worthy, my recent faves are these so-called Alt-Idol groups such as Passcode, Zenbu Kimi no Sei da, and Necronomidol. I've had coworkers say, "You only like those groups because of the girls!" Well, duh! Who doesn't like cute girls?

Winston Smith25 Aug 2018 7:41 a.m. PST

Movies where Samuel L Jackson says M….. F….. a lot.
The Hitman's Bodyguard is excellent in that regard. Jurassic Park, not so much. So the dinosaurs ate him instead.

I read (and finished!) all of the Harry Potter books, despite the fact that I really hated that entitled little creep.
Hmmmmm. That seems more like punishing myself than a guilty pleasure. I never got to the point in the series where I didn't give a rats ass what happened next.

No one has said, "hookers and booze" yet.
Oh No ! That's Not PC today ! huh? wink

My guilty pleasure is eating foods that are not good for me ! evil grin Occasionally while watching a movie at home …

As the man said after he won a million dollars and the IRS came after him, "I spent most of it on hookers, booze and the latest Adeptus Titanicus models from GW. The test I just wasted."

Winston Smith25 Aug 2018 10:19 a.m. PST

+1 Legion 4.
You know what really tastes delicious? Soften butter, mix in dark brown sugar and crunchy peanut butter. Don't let anyone see you. It can't be any worse than cookie dough. So I tell myself.

And then there's beer, smoked kielbasa and extremely sharp cheddar.

So true ! I've heard you can get a hooker cheaper than the cost of new GW Adeptus Titanicus ! wink evil grin

That concoction does sound wonderful Winston !

We are going to a Polish Fest at a local church on Sunday … I'm sure I'll be eating some kielbasa, perogies, etc., etc.! evil grin

I'd take the guilt of hiring a prostitute to over the guilt of blowing over a c-note on a six-inch high plastic model I can never do proper justice to anyway. But thats just another form of performance anxiety. A sadder form.

Both my sons (18 and 25) like My Little Pony. But they don't seem to feel guilty.

For me, maybe new age music.
