Can you make Iron Brigade with the Perry Union plastic set or will the headgear be too different?

I'm thinking of this one:

It depends on the period of the war and how strictly you follow the "classic" Iron Brigade uniform. The aspects for the classic uniform, the long frock coat, white gaiters and the rigid Hardee hat are not in this box. The gaiters were soon discarded, by 1863 the frock coat was replaced with the shorter sack coat for perhaps half the brigade and the Hardee hat had been battered into a shapeless "round" or "slouch" hat. The figures in the Perry union plastic infantry could depict these later Iron Brigade members.

You can do it but the headgear is not the biggest issue. Iron Brigade typically depicted in the full frock coat. There are no Perry plastics in frock coat but as others will say, I think you can argue sack coat for the later period. But you need the regulation hat. I think it is the Union box (as compared to the "American Civil War Infantry" box) has some brimmed hats with one side up. Be careful. You need to find them, cut them off and treat them like gold because there are only so many of them in a box. It does not have any decoration otherwise, but if you get enough boxes you can get 15 or so of those and pull off a unit of about that size. But understand -- not the true Hardee hat and not frock coat. All that said, I have a pile of plastic set to do just that. In the mean time, I took the hit and bought metal Iron Brigade -- but I do plan to supplement with these plastic conversions.

Upon reflection, those faux Hardee hats may also be in the "Union Infantry Skirmishing" box. I have cut all of mine I think. Anyone able to clarify on this?

Check the Perry line for frock coats – they have them in metal now.

The Union skirmishing box has the same figures as the Union infantry box only in reverse, most are Union skirmisher sprues with I think a couple of the Union Infantry sprues.

You guys ruin all the fun. Who wants the Iron Brigade without their so cool hats, coats, and white gaiters??
Shoot, they will end up looking just like the rest of the Union soldiers and just their fame alone is worthy of more then that.

Perrys do the Iron Brigade in their metal range with Hardee Hats in various stages of dilapidation but annoyingly they only do them in "firing line" poses.

Another one of their odd marketing decisions!
