I may go this route to cut down the expenses and due to my rather limited available gaming space. Each tank or team would be mounted on a base of 20mm x 20mm, 20mm x25mm or 25mm x 25mm (can't decide which size is best right now). I would really rather put the tanks on multi-tank bases (a platoon per base), but then you can have different size platoons and I also could not handle the bailed out vehicles properly or the unit frontage reduction due to losses. So individually mounted tanks seems to be the only way to go for the needed flexibility. I know that basing/not basing vehicles is a debatable topic, but I want to do it just to stop the vehicles from being placed so unrealistically close together. I would change all inch distances to the same no. of centimeters or half inches and reduce the size of the art. template accordingly. I am requesting any input from others who may have done this or have any thoughts on doing it. Can anyone think of any major issues that would be a show-stopper for this? Thanks for any input. |

If space is at a premium, that should work just fine. I would however switch from inches to centimeters for movement and firing range. |

And I could put the platoons on larger sabot bases at first, until they needed to come off of them due to kills or bail outs. |

Make symbolic platoon bases and use an dry erase marker: These bases are for Rommel but I can reuse them for FOW symply by putting different stats about the platoon

Repaint: So how do you handle bail out results in FOW with that type of mounting? |

So how do you handle bail out results in FOW with that type of mounting? With dry eraser you can write whatever you want on the green band. A red dot for a loss, a cross for a bail out, e.g: I X O I |

But if you had a bailed out tank and it fails to remount, then it can't move. So the whole stand would be stuck where it is? Or the rest of the platoon runs off and leaves the BO tank? Thanks. |

that's a good point, you'd probably leave a marker behind. If I'd ever play in 3mm, I'd group my platoon altogether on the same base. To me, that's for sure. |

Your platoon stands could be further split up by some of the tanks failing cross checks for terrain. I just don't see any other way to do it than using individually based tanks, as much as I hate to do it. |

It is an abstraction of incapacity. FOW is not really an individual tank / squad game but more a platoon game. What matters is how effective your platoon is. Now, it is always possible to make oneself's life more complicated than necessary but I would not sweat too much over the individual tank falling back. The main question would be for me: what is the level of effectiveness of my platoon? I am sure that under this premise you can have totally meaningful games. |
