I just finished painting and basing three more battalions for my Napoleonic collection. For many more pictures: link |

Very nice, particularly those French greatcoats. Are those all Victrix? The British didn't fire with a kneeling rank (at least not in the Napoleonic wars), both ranks were standing. The only time British line troops knelt in formation was to form a 4-rank square against cavalry, usually comprised of two ranks kneeling who placed their musket butts on the ground and did not fire except in the direst emergency. Behind them were two standing ranks who would have fired when required. |

Your figures are extremely well painted. It is unfortunate that the colours of your British Guards unit are in the wrong positions relative to each other. British Guards colours are the opposite way round compared to the line units. |

Guards are tricky in so many ways. Subtle differences in the lace of cuffs, coat tails and of course the blue instead of red wings. Brass badge on the cartridge pouch etc I do see a couple of Light Company figures with wings and green plume on cap. However Grenadiers just had a white plume, no red. Few seconds work to correct. Be sure to stick the Grenadiers on the right of the line and Light C on the left. Grenadiers white plume, blue wings as you have shown, right of line. Light Co green plume (you have two figures thus) blue wings and left of line. Nice work indeed. Very nice I would not hold out much hope for the two French columns facing the firepower of that line! |

Hmm looks like some 28mm sculp's/mfg have got it wrong! Good to know, before any further purchases and/or investment in painting. And yes the dilemma of the middle guard- flag (which they did have) or no/flag or go with Fanion ( and not clear as to what would be in 1815)… what to do and looks best? Great Work Winser54! |

Kneeling firing is not unknown, but you would expect them to be flank (actually Light) Company skirmishing…so they would ideally need wings on shoulders. Kneeling and firing, without wings, (centre companies) that is more Michael Caine "Front Rank…Fire…Rear Rank… Fire etc etc" or even Sergei B's British Guards in Waterloo, who were more of a menace to each other than to the Imperial Guard, with their fire discipline. Obviously this is much earlier than Waterloo, as the French are using the Lozenge flag and the Guards are in the "Stovepipe" cap and white overalls for Peninsula. Congratulations again and thanks for posting. This kind of thing prompts much discussion and feedback……..great…hence the forum |

I finished the second battalion today. This one is advancing as opposed to firing, but it is also forty figures strong.

The flags, the flank companies both now 100% correct……. some might quibble over minor details in centre companies, including what are actually flank company ORs or one officer (the one in front of the flags). I won't. I really like this battalion even more than your original showing. There is something about a line of redcoats….and Guards or Light Infantry even more |
