Pretty sad.

"Taking those plaques… is just deplorable," Army veteran Joe Schuler told FOX5.

IT the future. More and more scrappers are eying historical items for a quick buck. It wont be long before they run off with ACW Artillery barrels and statues.

Would like to see them keelhauled, from stem to stern, underneath it, once it is raised.

The punishment should fit the crime.

The scrap metal thieves are unstoppable. In the Java Sea whole wrecks are gone. If this was scrappers they've sold what they stole & are long gone.

Call me cynical & sceptical but I wonder at how convenient this is for the City government – they want the memorial gone so a 'development' can go in 'nearby' and don't want to pay for it to be moved. Selling it for scrap because no one has the money to repair or move it would be convenient & profitable for someone.

All crimes can be stopped – two ways. One, proper education and two, proper use of a sidearm (or rope, or guillotine or…).

I'd suggest leaving the vandals in the ocean, but I don't want their … [expletives deleted] polluting the waters my brothers rest in.
