Hi,

I'm trying to make some rules to use the shiny new Battlefront T-62 kit in a soviet army for Team Yankee

it is after all the Boba Fett off Tanks, a bit rubbish but fundamentally cool for no apparent reason

Anyway

here is what I have come up with after comparing the T-55 and T-62 in Fate of a Nation with the T-55 and T-72 in Team Yankee

Tank Unit, Infra red (IR), BDD Armour
Is Hit on 3+ (it being soviet)

Armour (same as T-55 AM2)
Front: 14
Side: 9
Top: 2

Movement (also same as T-55 AM2)
Tactical: 10"/25cm
Terrain Dash: 14"/35cm
Cross Country Dash: 20"/50cm
Road Dash: 24"/60cm
Cross: 4+

Main Gun 115mm Smoothbore
AT 20
Range 32"/80cm
RoF 1/1
Fire Power 2+
Laser Range Finder, Stabiliser

my thinking here is a 105mm gun is on average AT 19 whereas a 125mm gun is AT 22 so they 115mm should be AT 20 or 21, I've gone with AT 20 to be on the safe side

plus a coax 7.62 MG and pintle 12.7 AA MG

I'm ignoring the option to launch missiles out of the gun for now (but would probably be an optional upgrade like on the T-64

Points wise is the tricky part

It needs to be somewhere between The T-55 and T-72

So I'm tentatively thinking
5 points for the first 3 and then 3 points for every tank thereafter

or to but it another way

10x T-62: 26 points
9x T-62; 23 points
8x T-62: 20 points
7x T-62: 17 points
6x T-62: 14 points
5x T-62: 11 points
4x T-62: 8 points
3x T-62: 5 points

so that's more expansive then the T-55 (10 = 16 points) and about half the price of a soviet T-72 (10= 47 points)

it also means its cheap enough to field in hordes which the soviets are lacking at the moment

Any thoughts?

I have heard rumour that BF are making official stats for it and it might be out in October but I'm impatient and also that's just a rumour

3xT62= 15 5@
7xT62= 21 3@
10 T62 = 36

The stats are probably out in the Arab-Israeli right now. I'm not too sure if it will appear in Team Yankee. I mean, it was in the book for sure but its appearance is debatable I believe. The T55 I believe was far more common. I'm sure a friendly neighborhood bolt counter will be along shortly to set us straight.

@Dragon6
in Team Yankee the Warsaw Pact forces get a points break on the first 3 tanks for example 3 T-55s is 3 point and then 2 points for every extra tank
so in this case the T-62 is 5 points for the first 3 tanks total – not 5 points each

@Tgunner
These stats are from the Arab-Israeli Book (Fate of a Nation) but that's for 1967-1973 whereas Team Yankee is 1980s

I've used the stats from that as a base but increased the front Armour by a point and increased the AT as well

I've also repointed them seen as they now have to contended with M1s and Leopard 2s

The T-55 was more common with the export nations. the soviet did have build 20,000+ of them and not many where exported so they still have plenty of them in the B Divisions in the 1980s and I imagine when the losses of the T-64 and T-72s start to mount up they would soon be dusting them off

I think your TY adapted stats and points costs are reasonable, but I don't think the current BF T-62 kit for FOAN has the option to build the 1980's variant with the BDD and horseshoe armor upgrades. Maybe BF will release this variant for TY in the future as you mentioned.

@28mm Fanatik
Apparently the BF T-62 kit DOES come with the house shoe armour and BDD upgrades included on the sprue

I just looked at the pic of the sprue and you are right. It has two turret options and side skirts. No excuse not to get it now.

still trying to decide if I get a soviet T-62 mini horde or just go full out and get a east German full on T-55 Horde

Their are pros and cons to both, not least that if I get the T-62s I get to hum the soviet national anthem as I crush the capitalist pigs under the mighty soviet warmachine

15mm and 28mm Fanatik25 Sep 2018 1:24 p.m. PST

T-62M's coming soon. Might have to get a horde of at least 20 myself. Soon T-72's will no longer be the low end tank in the Soviet TY inventory.

Lion in the Stars25 Sep 2018 7:55 p.m. PST

@Andy: The East Germans have better stats.

Andy Tea26 Sep 2018 1:59 a.m. PST

Offcial TY Y-62 stats coming tomorrow (sooner then I expected)
lets see how far out I am

Wow, BF actually posted the backsides of the cards this time for a change.

Looks like you were right on, Andy, except for the main gun stabilizer and unit points cost.

Also note that starting with the 8th tank in the company the cost actually goes up from 3 to 4 points per T-62, which is the same for the battalion command vehicle. Interesting, this is the first time I've seen a discount on the first seven vehicles in a company. It averages out to 3.2 points per tank for a full-strength unit.

I was going to do a T-62s list but I've been side tracked by Czechoslovakia

I highly except I will go in heavily on the T-62s with oil wars next year though

seneffe13 Oct 2018 3:34 p.m. PST

You don't just need them in the 'Oil wars' theatres during the TY timeframe. There were actually hundreds of T62s still in front line GSFG units in 1984-86- especially in 8 Guards Army facing V and VII US Corps.
