A very nice model but it does beg the question of what size of board would be needed in that scale to use the model using realistic ranges ? |

When I was a kid I probably built the 1/35 "Screamin' Mimi" five or 6 times. I just loved that model. Board size not very relevant, ground scale is all that matters. I'd wager the same ground scale as needed for most any large gun. I've seen 155s on tables before! |

If as a kid then probably the Revell model which was 1/32 :) Not being a smartie. Revell and Monogram put out some of the first "bigger kits" in 1/32nd matching them with the standard larger model car kits. Some other companies followed suit with other military equipment in 1/32. Credit Tamiya with the industry standardizing on 1/35th. |

Don't hit me with those negative waves Mysteron it's a beautiful model! :-) I guess most people will use at as a standard tank and just admire the pretty rockets! |

Board size not very relevant, ground scale is all that matters. And even if you use ground scale = model scale, then at 1:56 scale a moderately sized gym should provide plenty of opportunities to fire it at realistic ranges. Or on a smaller battlefield, you could have it engage area targets in a pre-battle or early battle rocket salvo, and then roll up as a reinforcement a few rounds later to engage survivors with their gun and MGs. Or maybe the tanks after firing the salvo retire back to meet a couple of ammo trucks to reload. Most of the crew gets out of the tanks and starts to load fresh rockets to the tubes. Meanwhile, a bunch of German stragglers, lead by an over-enthusiatic senior NCO, spots the juicy targets and decides to launch a surprise attack. However, before they manage to sneak within range of their panzerfausts (just a few left) an American sentry spots the Jerries skulking in the bushes and a frantic skirmish ensues. Will the handful of Germans manage to destroy the tanks and the ammo trucks, or will the crews manage to drive them away? |
