Of those of us who engage in starship combat, Do you use existing fictional universes, or something generic?
A) Star Trek
B) Star Wars
C) Battlestar Galactica
D) Babylon 5
E) Battlefleet Gothic
F) Generic
G) Other--please specify.
I'd be especially interested if anyone bases their space combat on--oh, I don't know. Books, perhaps?

I have fleets from each of those universes plus many others so I do not focus on a specific one.

A, F, G

Star Wars – It feels to me like it has more latitude for canon-based what-if battles. This is not intended to be a slight against other milieu, it's just how I feel based on watching movies, tv, and not doing tons of research. Also it has Wings of War … er … X-Wing.

Generic – Mostly in the "build your own ship" approach for rules. Actually, if you add an extra turning axis to Car Wars works well. You just end up not needing a lot of the rules about terrain interactions.

Other – Homemade milieu. I have a WWII surrogate scifi campaign and a couple other ones.

Other – Space 1889!

B, F, though I have ships from A and C, too.

B is almost exclusively X-Wing

I use GOBS! for F gaming (with GZG and Studio Bergstrom vessels), but also have it designed to do generic versions of A and C (and D & E).

G – Generic.

If push comes to shove I'll default to "Starfire", but with models

A to G I've got the lot.
To specify G would include Blake's 7, TTA, Wing Commander, Macros, Dropfleet Commander and my homebrew 'Interleave' universe.

A & B for me. A is a mixture of Attack Wing and ADB/FASA miniatures owned by me.

B is X-Wing owned by a friend.

All and any that appeal to me … It's a big Galaxy and Big Universe ! evil grin So pretty much most anything goes !

A, D F, have some of B and C but don't do anything with it now.

A – But mostly of the Star Fleet Battles variety which really counts as its own universe. The runner up is FASA's Starship Combat Simulator however.

A through D

X-Wing (v1)
I also still have my B5 ships, I used the B5 source book 'Full Thrust' type rules.

A, B and F. ( Generic would be Full Thrust Fleets) It really depends on what I am in the mood for.
