My wife and I will be in London at the end of September. I've seen the main Imperial War Museum in London but I just learned about the aviation museum at Duxford. My question is- it it accessible by rail from London? |

Yes – either get a train to Cambridge from London Kings Cross / St Pancras and then get a bus from Cambridge railway station Or Go from Liverpool street to Whittlesford parkway (via Stanstead) and then again a bus ride – shorter bus journey as Whittlesford parkway is much nearer, but the train journey is longer. |

You'll want a full day – it's a big site and takes a while to just get around. It's a huge collection. The land Hall is also very interesting, The American Hall is superb. Alternatively – RAF Museum at Hendon is just a short walk from Collindale Underground station, it is also very well stocked with aircraft…and is also free to get in. Would probably be easier to get to than Duxford – how much aviation museum time do you have ? |

Well worth visiting, take a cab if you have to and as 20thmaine says you will need a whole day. |

You can walk from Whittlesford ParkWay station, it's about a mile but you might be exhausted by the end of the day. 22/23 Sept is a flying weekend. It'll be epic I expect – usually is. There will usually be stuff up the week before. It's a great museum. The Para museum part is excellent as is the American Hall. The fastest way would be to go London Kings Cross to Royston on one of the express trips then cab to Duxford, which is about 8 miles from Royston Station. Good pub nearby that Douglas Barder used to drink in. They have rooms if you wanted to stay over. Or there is chain hotel nearby, in fact right by Whittlesford Station. Drop me a PM I may be able to help you. My neck of the woods. Hendon is fabulous as is HMS Belfast, in the Pool of London. |
