A 2011 article, Armand? You're usually so au courant. I have driven past the mothballed fleet, and flown over it in a small plane. It was pretty impressive. |

Yep, though I drive across the Benicia Bridge which overlooks the anchorage of the Ghost Fleet fairly often, and it's basically gone. It was a local fixture for many years, then the Federal government and the State went on full court press to scrap the ships. California in particular did a lot of yawping about this being a victory for environment, of course. I remember taking boat tours as a kid to see the ships up close, and of course there was a lot of interest when the USS Iowa was anchored there for a while. |
