I have been working out the scenario for my INWarD 2018 game and have hit a snag with the rules.

In Broadside and Ram each squadron gets an AP dice roll to spend on movement, firing and repairs. For movement, the rules state that 1 AP can be used for one straight line move at cruise speed.

At the same time, in the movement rules section, it clearly states than no AP's are spent for cruise movement.

This is contradictory, so I assume that all ships get a free forward cruise move each turn, which makes sense as you can't just stop in the water, but any additional forward movement must be paid for in AP's, along with any other manoeuvres.

Alternatively, each ship only gets one forward movement, then any AP's to be spent can only be used for turning, accelerating or decelerating, leaving the rest for firing, repairs etc. This would seem to be a more realistic option and would prevent any movement over extended distances.

Any help with this to sort it out would be very much appreciated, otherwise I'll have to work out which approach to take myself.

Thanks

Just in case you're not aware of what International Naval Wargames Day is all about:

I assumed it was a proof-reading thing and that normal movement is free – but going faster or slower costs points.

I'm a big fan of the Manley approach, and it seems churlish to complain about typos (there are quite a lot in the "Campaign" section, although very few obscure the meaning – "Turkish" should I think be "Prussian" in the first line on p.13 but I can live with the variable spellings of "Tegetthoff" and "Erzherzog"). Apart from your cruising speed one, I think shore batteries on p.14 should be AF + DF (not CS) + 3; presumably there should be a reference to cruising speed in the last section on p.16; option c on p.26 should say within 2 sea areas (I'm guessing); and the victory conditions at the top of p.28 should include 20 points for a demonstration as well as a bombardment. But they're all pretty minor and I offer them in a spirit of helpfulness just in case there's ever a reprint!
