I was spray painting some Battlefront India Pattern carriers.
Last night I gave them an undercoat of Flat Black.
This morning I gave them a coat of Krylon Camo Sand. Ordinarily this works.
However, it looks like I gave them too heavy a coat, and it dried with a cracked finish.

What's your usual cure, short of stripping with Simple Green and starting over?

You could try a spray of gloss coat acrylic and see if it fills in the cracks? Or a wash of white glue and water?

Winston, I'm sorry but I think this is just a matter of how much more time and effort you waste before you break out the Simple Green.

Robert has it right. Simple Green and start over.

Yeah. I already knew the answer I didn't want to hear.

John,

The black undercoat may not have dried sufficiently. I had a similar experience making Fort Khalaam ( link ) about 9 years ago. the cracking didn't matter as it added character to the fort.

As others have said, you probably just have to Simple Green them and start all over.

Alas…..

I would start again because the cracking might not be down to a heavy coat but because of some impurity.

I have seen it where latex/silicone has somehow got on the surface and you can recoat until the end of the world but they all crack.

This won't be popular, but . . .

I'm now too old, and have too limited painting time to strip something still in production. Sell it for 50% off to someone who doesn't mind stripping it, and buy a new copy. Everyone wins.

I bought them on sale. To replace them I would be paying regular Battlefront prices. grin
It's only 6 pieces. I'll live.
I used to be a stripper….

This is what happens when you stray from the AWI!

I know!

I don't know if this will help, Winston, but while you're messing around with the Simple Green, you could whistle the melody to "Night Train". :-)

At a guess I'd say it may have been too humid or too hot to spray. Either way strip and start again but just in case I'd wait until you are sure it wasn't the weather conditions. As a basic rule I go for 60 – 75 F and less than 50% relative humidity. I know those values aren't an exact science but they work for me.

Winston Smith07 Aug 2018 8:00 a.m. PST

Yeah. It was very humid.
No Simple Green at Walmart, but there was Pine Sol. I put them in the Vat last night, and already the paint is flaking off.
