I'm looking for a set of MASS combat rules to use with 15mm. I'm looking for something simple and fun. The key is mass. I want 100s of miniatures on the table during a battle. |

I think AoA is still in print. It was available from Lone Gunman Games here in the U.S. link |

@WeeSparky – the page is there but there is no product listed. |

I would recommend you take a look at Pride of Lions. My dad wrote the rules and they are quick to learn and are a lot of fun. They also allow for tons of figures on the table. link David splinteredlightminis.com |

@D6 – I've looked at KoW but to me, it's to abstract. I am looking at a Hail Caesar fantasy variant at the moment. I've ordered a few of the Battle Valor miniatures to get me started into it. |

So what about the Battle Valor rules? |

I would second Armies of Arcana. You can find the rules on eBay. |

@Cyrus – I really don't have any information on them to honestly jump into them. I have them earmarked to look at later this week(end) and see if they fit the bill. @Splintered Light Miniatures – Bought and I will take a look at them. Any recommendations on where to pick up the various die needed? |

We used Supreme Warlord:Blood Lust which was released in 1998. Well before the current popular rules were in play. It was mass combat can relied on systems for inspiration from the 1970s. But also used techniques for faster combat resolution and force building. As such we standardized unit sizes which has become a trend in the past few years. Our drilled troops were of 8 or 12 stands and untrained masses were in 10 and 16 stand units. Horsemen had four stands. Playtesting was done with 10 and 15mm castings. Fantasy armies rather than human armies were the norm. Combat was the old weapons vs defensive armor with losses counted per castings. In the case of a half casting loss a morale die was rolled with even being rallied and odd lost. Played fast with 20 to 30 units per side. |

Historique IF AoA is still available you'd need to go check with the UK publisher who was nearly out of print that last time I checked with them. They had not plans to reprint the rules due to issues with the multiple owners. I don't know if I still have a damaged copy in my files or not. |

Ive played KoW and Hail Caesar for fantasy mass battle and Hail Caesar is much better, both in mechanics and enjoyability. There are free fantasy additions on line and on Facebook and it plays very well. It is my go to for fantasy mass battle |

Hi Chal what Chipco version do you play? We were massively into 2nd Edition. We had around 20 active players. Started with 1st and moved thru it to 2nd. 3rd was the pdf debacle which helped kill the game's popularity. Thanks. John |

We use A Game of Knights & Knaves for both historical and fantistorical. Uses DBX basing and modernized DBX mechanics. Can field as big an army as you'd like and as basing is multi-figure you don't need move em around one by one. Second recommendation is D3H2 which DBA 3.0 & HOTT 2.0 combined. Not as elegant as Knights & Knaves but the same concept. Thomas J. Thomas Fame & Glory Games |

I also want lots of units on the table -- say 20+ per side. I've been using Commands & Colors Ancients as the base system with some magic and special abilities cards that I made myself grafted on (used just like tactician cards in the Napoleonic version). Yes, there is a fantasy version of C&C, but I like the linear aspects of ancients, for a feel it is more realistic (or at least believable that units would fight in a line and not independently move about.) I wanted a fast playing set and did not want detailed unit abilities where you need a separate card keeping track of stats or other things. I was happy with calling most dwarf infantry "medium infantry" and going from there. Points were also unimportant to me – line 'em up and fight. War isn't fair. |

I would try Triumph for mass battles. I've done fantasy battles with 50 stands on figures on a side. Joyful blood bath with no book keeping… It's available on Wargames Vault |
