I've had the Cod Wars sets from Shapeways for a while and just getting around to painting them. I was amazed at the detail about the ships and their colors I could get from watching documentaries on the wars, but I'm stumped with the basic grey to use on the ICGV and RN vessels. It's not light grey or sea grey or haze grey, unless it's just the '70s film. Seems to have a tinge of blue to it. Ceramcoat does a Dolphin Grey that might work if that's the case. What's the correct official color? While I'm at it, deck color for trawlers – looked dark, but I thought it should be light grey or yellow ochre as it looks like some of the cabins are painted in yellow ochre.

Much depends on the scale of models you're using but for the Royal Navy in 1:1 the colour was BS381C-697 Light Admiralty Grey until 1968 when it replaced with BS381C-676 Light Weatherwork Grey.

Sovereign Hobbies will sell you the right shades – they are enamel but the chips on the site have interesting information.

There are probably other places and colour charts available too online.

be very careful about using enamels on the shapeways detailed plastic – unless they are extremely clean, the paint will never dry.

Thanks decapod, I'm using acrylics – I'm good with approximates if I can find a close second – although I primed them with Krylon.

Oh, and I'm guessing you're the creator of the Shapeways Cod Wars packages? I had sets 1 through 3, and just ordered 4 and 5, plus an extra Exmouth. If you'd be so kind, I'd appreciate if you did a Leander and a Rothesay as well (I'd buy a pair of each), along with ICGV Thor (or is it sister to Odinn? – I haven't been able to determine if it's unique or a sister) and ICGV Arvakur. There is another guy who does a Rothesay, but it looks kind of rough – certainly not as nice as your ships. The radar mast is a rectangle, rather than a tripod. Thanks!
