OK, so I'm looking at David Manley's splendid little "Splendid Little War" rules, and I see that I can pretty much do the US Navy from the Navwar range. However, Mr Navwar only seems to do a couple of suitable Spanish models. What is a fellow to do for the rest? And before anyone suggests it, yes, I might have tried 1/2400 but all my other ships are 1/3000 and I want to be able to use the ones that overlap. And I'm in the UK and not wildly enthusiastic about WTJ's plastic range, beautiful though they undoubtedly are …

FWIW most of my Spaniards are WTJ…..

A perfect topic for the SAW Yahoo group:

I prefer WTJs older metal models but AFAIK they are the place to go for the Spanish ships even though they are now printed plastics.

Oh well – looks like it may have to be WTJ for the gaps. They'll be the nicest looking obsolete protected cruisers on the table.

Stupidly I see I have done the same thread in two separate places – I did try crossposting from the Spanish American board on the C19th message board but couldn't find this one. Apologies for the confusion – and will now look for the Yahoo group!

Thanks for joining the group!

@Buckeye: thanks for hosting it!

@DM: thanks for another great set of rules! (I had a couple of questions of detail but this may not be the place.) Are your Americans all Navwar by contrast? I would much prefer to find close equivalents for the missing Spanish cruisers as I'm not very keen on WTJ's plastic. I know they're lovely models, but they are also quite expensive from here. I did buy some metal British ships some time ago and wish I'd bought more at the time.

Actually, while you're here: I don't suppose you could turn your rules-writing genius in the direction of a playable set for carrier battles in the Pacific, by any chance? Insoluble to most, but I bet you could do it. Or you could always tart up those lovely Cod War rules and give them the Long Face treatment …

Maybe it's me. I did build masters for Navwar back in the day. Have you considered scratch building what you need?

In 1/3000 it's easy to convert 1cm = 100 feet.

Alternatively, look under the British, Italian and Austo-Hungarian ranges to see if there is something you can substitute.

Scratchbuilding? *shudder*

I wouldn't entirely rule it out, but for someone of my limited abilities substitution is a more promising line of approach. As I mentioned on the other board where I inadvertently started a parallel conversation, I've found one or two already thanks.

Try blacksmokebluewater.miiduu.com

Although the standard ships they make come in 1/1000, he can custom them to other ranges, so I would ask.

Thanks C – that's a new one on me!
