Hi all,

Starting up an Ayyubid army, and I'm looking for a good, engaging read that overviews Saladin and the Ayyubid period. Not the crusade, specifically (although, open to suggestions there as well), but focused on the Ayyubids themselves. Any must-reads?

There's a new book by Steve Tibble on crusades armies. He's doing a series of articles for Wargames illustrated so should be useful. I'm just waiting for me copy to arrive!!

Thanks Double Ney. The title of the book is:
"The Crusader Armies: 1099–1187" and it is listed at Amazon. Due out in late August.

Hmm, I will have to keep my eye out, thanks!

There is an older book called The Crusades through Arab Eyes by Amin Maalouf.
