On Thursday evening the White Rock group were treated to a game put on by Chris Leach, one half of Juno beach in 20mm. The game was very fun with all participants enjoying the game. Except maybe Francis who's unit of Germans was being pounded by two petards! The Canadian victory conditions were to take the two villages and the radar station. The Canadians decided to go straight up the middle and swing to either side. This first landing craft carrying the Sherman flail and a bulldozer came in between both German 50L60 AT guns in concrete emplacements and both were destroyed before they could move up the beach. This was bad news for the Canadians as only 4" of beach were cleared of mines. The other 9" or so each vehicle had to test for mines as they moved up. The large landing craft were scratch build by Eric Petit, our master ship modeler. Four infantry companies landed in the centre in the second wave with one company losing half its men to MG and rifle fire. As more AVRE's and Shermans showed up the fighting became intense with both sides losing men, Shemans and Churchill AVRE's. Eventually both German AT guns were lost and all the infantry in both villages cleared out. The Canadians streamed into the centre and villages. Germans reinforcements came in a little too late to prevent both villages falling. The radar station was still held by the Germans but a whole battalion of Elite Commandos had arrived. Game pretty much over. All figures and terrain painted and built by Chris Leach! Two large landing craft scratch built by our master ship modeler, Eric Petit.
