These fantasy skirmish rules have been out a couple of months now link And a preview PDF PDF link They sound interesting – has anyone tried them out? |

I'd never heard of it. Color me miffed. Checking around, I see why. Evidently while the rules are out, you can't buy them from the regular gaming outlets, but only by signing on with Westfalia. And they require the Bestiary, which is not out, though there may be a beta version in August. (Also they want to run discussion and maybe some parts of the system through Facebook--which won't happen as far as I'm concerned. If people want my personal information, they can pay me, not some Silicon Valley zillionaire.) Anyway, looks interesting, works in a small space and probably doesn't require anything I don't have. I'll most likely buy it--when all the parts are for sale. I am so tired of game companies trying to sell me half a game and a promise. |

I don't own it yet but I did think it was available. Robert --- your info makes it sound that the rules are still being worked on if they want feedback? But the rules are also being sold? I don't get that. I read he is working up a Dark Ages version. |

So now Mersey has gone from small units to skirmish. I will have to look into it. Have some Dark Age figs and a Dragon all ready for it. Thanks for bringing to our attention. |

Westfalia is one of the most confusing companies out there. Sometimes they sell mini's, sometimes they are out of stock. Sometimes you know whats coming up followed by endless periods of silence. Don't get me wrong the sculpting is first rate but the way they run the business and do marketing is baffling. Chris is present on LAF I believe. This is intriguing because I like Mersey's rules writing. |

I'd not heard of them but like the minis on the website. Wonder why he has jumped ship from osprey though? |

Ney Ney, as I understand it the rules proper are out. But you only get a very narrow--like examples only--selection of the Bestaries which define armies. A more comprehensive book is supposed to be out soon, but I did not find the use of the word "beta" in this context encouraging. And I noticed a serious lack of reviews, which makes me suspect other people are having troubles with this. One of the nice things about Mersey's work with Osprey is that once I bought it I didn't have to wait around for the next installment and hope it didn't change anything critical. This looks like a step backward. Won't keep me from buying later. But I don't buy rules in pieces as though I were collecting stamps. ("Look! I have a FOW complete set: rules, theater book and army books, ALL IN THE SAME EDITION!! I never play with them, though: it would reduce the value of the set.") |

Thanks for this extra info Robert. Where did you read about the beastries and beta version? I'd like to find out more but it's not on the website or the Mersey books blog. |

Ney Ney, on the downloads page there are some sample bestiaries and scenarios link Down the bottom it mentions the August release of the main bestiary. And I imagine a Dark Ages version would be called Strongaxe? Lol |
