Having been a happy owner of Gloomhaven for about 3 weeks and having played at least 30+ hours with the wife I put together a big post on my blog featuring a combined review of the game, pictures of painted miniatures, talk about valuable player aids and a few other things of interest!

I am actually blown away about how good the game was despite my initial worries of hype, repetitive gameplay and the idea of having to retire characters during the long campaign. This may be one of the best board games in my collection and it is a very good dungeon crawler.

I painted up a set of core characters for a friend at work since he also has the game, and I painted up a bunch of characters for my own set which are featured in my blog post.

I saw this for sale at my local store, and I knew about the 2d Kickstarter printing, but is there a way to tell the difference between 1st and 2nd printings? Or is any copy I see in a store going to be the 2d printing?

2nd edition has a dial for tracking experience and health, there is also a difference in the map (prosperity tracker), some of the stickers and a couple of other things.

I think you can only find the 2nd edition of the game in the stores nowadays. Sadly the box cover does not tell anything about it being 2nd edition/print.

I THOUGHT that would be the case, but I am so used to games/rules putting "2nd edition" or "revised" on a second version that the lack of it scared me off.

I like some aspects of this game, but we have felt you had to play just right and not make mistakes to win. To not be able to scoop up treasures after you kill enemies in a room, because you might use up cards you'll need, is frustrating. When we have won scenarios, we have _just barely_ won. That might be exciting, but we don't like the feel of not being able to make mistakes. If we try again, we may try it at easy setting.

Nice one, bro. Glad to hear you enjoy it. And good work on the pjs too.

Six of us will be cracking open the box in September and are very much looking forward to it.
