Gripping Beast sent out an advertisement suggesting that the ongoing European heat wave was a good time to buy Teutonic Order figures. Which got me to thinking: Does season/weather/climate affect your gaming activities? Do you, for example, tend to paint or game with Greeks, Egyptians, Sudanese or Darkest Africans when it's cold and winter out, while hauling out your Vikings or Russo-Finnish War troops in the heat of the summer? I think I do have a slight tendency to do this, though I find it possible to get enthused about the cold figures during the summer and Vikings in winter, sometimes. Grelber |

For many years, I held a seasonal job in July and December. There was lots of down time all by myself, and I painted a LOT of minis (and on break from that, read a lot of books). Going on twenty years later (now that I think about it!), I still find that my desire to paint and output increases considerably around these times of the year. So, in that sense, I was "stuck inside", and painting was the best use of my time (at least, as far as I was concerned). Not much for seasonal inspiration- though winter does always sort of make me want to paint fantasy undead. |

The season certainly doesn't determine project type but does dictate the amount of time I spend indoors. When the weathers nice I'd rather be outside enjoying the weather. I get waaaaaay more painting done in the winter. |

No. I haven't seen any correlation between what I'm working on or playing and the weather -- not when I lived in New England, nor in the Rockies, nor the San Francisco Bay Area (where the weather really is pretty nice just about all the time -- and when it's not pretty nice, it's still pretty nice compared to the rest of the country on the same day). When I lived in places with real winters, I got more done in the warmer seasons because I could spray paint. Now, in the Bay Area, I usually get the most done when my wife is out of town on business and I can just leave my stuff on the patio table and the dining table for a few days. |

Indirectly. I like to play a lot of historical and "real world fictional" scenarios on or about the official date they happened. So for northern hemisphere battles, I play some winter games in winter and summer games in summer. Even following that, playing part of the Siachen Conflict that happened in June doesn't necessarily make it warm and cozy any more than sieging the Masada in winter makes it snowy. For fantasy and scifi scenarios that have a roughly four season climate and no parallel calendar, I tend to align the dates played with the northern hemisphere calendar. |

I paint much more in winter, with nice weather it's more likely to take a book out on the deck than go to the basement to paint. I have some years taken my painting to my outbuilding which is more or less outside but didn't change up this year, yet. |

Well as long as I don't have to go outside to wargame … winter or summer … It's OK with me … |
