I am assuming(always a bad idea) that since the permenat fortifications(forts) were manned by the Army, that the gun carriages(barbette) would be painted per the field regulations. Am I close?

Reasonable assumption – although many of carriages for larger fortress guns were made of iron

Dave, the Ordnance Manual calls for two colors. Wooden carriages were painted the well known olive green, while iron carriages were painted brown.
