I have fun with it for although nothing but a Napoleonic collector not a Frenchman in the house. Had French toast for breakfast and with luck a French bottle of wine later.

Th only day soldiers in Paris can go out in uniform. Unless on guard/ security (that useless costly comedy) missions.

A day to play the game "Guillotine" with friends.

I confess to being very pro-French in my wargaming armies, for their military history (from 1740 through 1815) is one of prominence (under Marechal Saxe); to poor results (7YW); to a magnificent rebuilding (AWI, both navy and army) which probably bankrupted the monarchy; to the horror of the revolution; to the Levee en masse which turned all of us as young men into cannon fodder – no more expensive, small, professional standing armies; to the most magnificent period of military unifoms, units, tactics, strategies, battles, I personally recognize.

Not Garde de Paris for nothing!

Your article has some flaws/ mix up. Versailles was invaded in October, but no slaughter, "just" two gardes killed, Louis the soft not wanting blood.
They mix up with Tuileries in 1792 where this one again did it, then ordering the surrender of the Swiss bn, ending with most killed notheless after laying down arms.
Drummer boy for ex evicerated in the arms of his father and all kind of niceties a well manipulated crowd can do when unleashed.
A lot of nothing to really feast and be proud of. Ths has nothing to do with the fundamental ideas that were behind it.

The Swiss remember it for the murder of many of their soldiers in the Swiss guard.

When we gamed we had a saying that GdP would play any side as long as it was French. This did cause some issues during our ACW games.
