What elements give combat its unique character? * fear * fatigue etc. |

My guess (never having been in combat) would be fear of death/maiming. |

I don't remember the title – other than it was a lame WWII movie – Battle of the Bulge maybe – But one of the characters was saying that most men were more afraid of being seriously hurt than dying. I wonder how true that is? |

From what I remember, fearing serious injury more than death was definitely a thing. That feeling seemed to disappear when someone was seriously injured when someone near him was killed. No joke. LT |

Oh I forgot disgust. 1. Disgust having to kill people, even the bad guys. 2. Disgust having to see dead friends. 3. Disgust having to pick up parts of friends from roads and inside buildings. 4. Disgust having to see little kids killed or wounded and not be able to help them. 5. Disgust filling body bags with someone you just ate chow next to and now is dead. |
