Another chance to win the Iron Throne this Thursday evening starting 7pm at Historicon. A Game of Knights & Knaves.

Armies packed (but feel free to bring your own Game of Thrones themed army – 28mm standard 60mm wide basing).

See you there…

I've always wondered. Why an iron throne?

Is iron a rare metal in Westeros? If so, how do they make armour?

It's supposedly made out of the swords of the vanquished foes of a previous king. Thus, it's coincidentally made of iron (well, probably steel). Also "Iron Throne" is more foreboding and "medievally" sounding than "Steel Throne," which sounds more like an '80s prison rock band.

The lords who were vanquished by Aegon the Conqueror had their swords melted down and forged into the Iron Throne by the dragon Balerion the Dread.

So, it's symbolic of the Targaryen Conquest.
Iron is not scarce at all.

Yes its made of swords the conversion of iron to steel was rather dodgy in the middle ages (no way to test success or failure) so it probably had a lot iron in it.

I've got a Christmas ornament version I give out to the winner (its the TV version not the correct giant version of the books). My son has managed to reclaim it after loosing it at Siege of Augusta. Next chance to get him off is DragonCon.

Another great night of A Game of Knights and Knaves at Historicon.
