Hi A friend and I are looking into doing something different from the normal kind of wargames we play and are looking into more 'skirmish' type games where you do not have to have large numbers of figures. Currently looking at SAGA and Dux Britanniarum (already have the Dux Bellorum rules) but are having difficulty working out what you actually need to play them in terms of 'extras' (I'm thinking of supplement books, special dice etc.), apart from the basic rule book, figures and terrain. Hope that makes sense. Also we would be very grateful on views on the two sets of rules. Many thanks, Paul |

Dux Brit just needs the basic book and the cards. I think the cards come with the rules. There is an expansion if you want to use Picts and Irish and the like. Saga needs the rules and at least one Supplement (Viking Age or Crusades), plus dice for whichever factions you want to build |

I spent a good $200. USD on the original Saga stuff. The first set of rules, then the C & C rules and all the books and supplements. I loved it! Played all the time. Now there is Saga2. I've never played it. Saga 1 is out! No one within 100 miles of me is buying it. Everybody says they would like to try it but, no one is buying the books or playing Saga at all any more. And me with 13 different factions… sad. |

Saga 2 is an improvement on the original. It's a bit pricey to get into though – rules, supplement and one set of dice will set you back £50.00 GBP |

The Saga dice are a huge rip off. I just made the changes o the army card from runes to numbers and used regular d6…. |

Or you can download the symbols and stick them to blank dice – don't forget, too, that some dice do for multiple factions. |

It's easy to make your own dice. Buy a set of blank dice with recessed faces (about £2.50 GBP for 8 dice). Download the symbols and stick on. A coat of varnish and you have a set of nice durable dice which look good. |

you don't even need to do anything special for dice in SAGA . all the battleboards show the dice in the same order no matter what they're called or what icon they have on them . 1st icon = 1 2 or 3 on a d6 2nd icon = 4 or 5 3rd icon = 6 after playing a game or 2 you won't even have to think about it . |
