Amazing – they actually look like female warriors rather than odalisques…

You know -- I've got some of "the Squid's" ladies from other eras… I like 'em (will like 'em even better if/ when I ever get 'em painted!!!!).

AND, I know the "love affair" a lot of folks have with Samurai gaming. BUT, I think of three films I just watched in recent days, and think of Mulan, both in the animated Disney release (which was really a fun film to watch with my son), and the 2009 live-action version, as well as another live-action in which Wei Zhao has, not the starring, but a significant role, Red Cliff. Those films make me think --- how NICE it would be to have some Ancient Chinese "warrior maidens."

Now before anyone jumps on me -- yes I am aware of Black Hat's "Dragon Kingdom" fantasy "warrior maidens." I actually have some. They're not painted yet, but one day!! However, one reason they're not painted yet is they just don't "do it for me…" They are, for one thing, too "chunky!" I'd rather have some figures more properly "proportioned" (tho' not so "slim" in the sculpting that their weapons bend and break just looking at them (like some "Watchful I" figures I have!!). Also, am not too enamored of the costumes the Black Hat figures are sculpted wearing. I'd prefer figures properly "kitted out" as young Chinese "warrior maidens" in armor (but still clearly "maidens"), like Wei Zhao is portrayed in her two roles. That is, sculpted nicely -- along the lines of these Bad Squiddo Japanese. That would be GREAT!!!!!

I would also prefer they be sculpted appropriately for the period of the Han Dynasty (at least the "Eastern" or "Later" Han, if not the "Early" or "Western"), but if later than that, no later than Wei Zhao's portrayal of "Hua Mulan" as being from the Northern Wei Dynasty, ca. 500AD.
