Reposting due to the stupid bug.

My college age son and I started going to conventions together when I took him to Little Wars back when he was 8. This year we weren't able to go to Little Wars, so I offered to take him to his first Historicon and we're off on a road trip later this week.

It's my first Historicon since 2012 and my first (and it sounds like my last) at the Host. I look forward to seeing and playing with folks and spending some cold hard cash either at the Exhibition Hall or Wally's Basement.

I cannot WAIT. Never actually BEEN to Historicon before, so I am incredibly excited! Just annoyed that I likely won't be able to take photos because I'll be working… I love going back over the old cons I've been to on the blog:(

Safe travels, all!:)

I'll be wandering about on Saturday, flea market and Dealers.
If I can squeeze in a game, marvelous.

As a wargamer dad with a college age son who games with me when he's back home but who is away this Summer, I envy you greatly, TGerritsen!!! Have a great time together with your son!

Traffic Advisory:
Anyone getting off at PA Turnpike Exit #246 Harrisburg East and planning on taking I-283--the southbound two-lane cattle chute is still in effect from the entrance ramp at the Tpk interchange for about 2-5 miles, with several feeding on-ramps complicating the situation. This will become a fairly clogged area between 15:30 and 18:00 on weekdays, and possibly worse on Friday. An alternative would be to take the turnpike on to Exit 266 Lebanon/Lancaster, then take PA 72 south directly to I-283 East, thence to the Host.
Or, if you want to take the scenic route, get off the turnpike at Exit #246, take PA230 through Highspire, Middletown, Elizabethtown, and empty out onto I-283 at Salunga. It's slower, but you can find lots of places to stop, eat, shop for stuff you need/forgot, etc. I particularly personally recommend the Sharp Shopper grocery outlet which is just south of Highspire past the Harrisburg Airport connector intersection, at the next traffic light with a Sheetz convenience store on left. Great deals on snacks, drinks, and all kinds of stuff; bring a cold bag or two.
Don't forget to put 511PA.com on your cell phone to use the live-refresh traffic flow maps help you locate and avoid serious blockages.

Have a safe, fun, and pleasantly memorable trip.
And remember, out-of-state drivers--some PA drivers can be unexpectedly courteous and generous in their driving behaviors. Do not allow the surprise and shock of this to distract you, causing an unfortunate accident. It's just the way they are.

Just wanted to give folks a heads up. A few minutes ago I received a call from the Host. They are apparently now overbooked because not all the blocks of rooms they let for Historicon guests have been completed. They've booked us a room in a neighboring motel. This obviously won't effect all folks with Host reservations, but I just wanted to get the word out

Heading out early tomorrow morning with my buds. First time I have not run or helped run a game at Historicon so that will be a bit strange for me. Instead I will be doing pick up games and seeing if there are games I can get into plus I have a table at Walley's Basement Saturday morning. Come by and say hi and perhaps buy some good deals.

Arrived after 9 hours from North Carolina. The hotel room at the Host is fabulous. Yes, the front area and lobby looks like a bomb went off but seeing lots of familiar faces.

"Arrived after 9 hours from North Carolina": interesting to hear. That's about how long it takes to get to Lancaster from New England (Boston area). Have a good time and safe travels home!

Have fun and take pictures!

Nine hours from NC sounds about right. We made Goldsboro, NC, from Harrisburg in 8 hours one year traveling to the Olustee, FL, Civil War reenactment.

Lord Ashram11 Jul 2018 9:35 p.m. PST

That's pretty far west or south NC. Durham should be about… what, seven and a half? Chris?
