So I've decided to take the plunge again into the Spanish Civil War, blame Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman!. Probably going to go with Empress 28mm. I want a game for a platoon or less per side, that captures the character of the war. I am aware of – Disposable Heroes/ Point Blank
Bolt Action
Chain of Command

What else is out there, and which do you folks recommend?

I'm using Osprey's A World Aflame for RCW. It's got a good interwar feel, but old school in that a lot of details are left up to the players' discretion. That's fine for me, as this will be a solo game.

Triumph of the Will by Too Day Lardies was designed for SCW. Never played it, but I think some of its elements ended up in CoC.

Primera Battala – Iron Ivan SCW specific rules – lots of rules to set it in the SCW rather than some generic 20th century rules. link

I second Jlundberg's recommendation for SCW rules. In addition to the Prima booklet, you will need the basic WWII rule book "Disposable Heroes" and ten sided dice. I also recommend playing in 20mm scale.

peterx, if I could still get HPC figures, I would do 20mm. I'm not a fan of the Minarion's sculpts.

If you have chain of command there is a free download module for SCW. There is a LOT of flavor in the platoons there.

Triumph of the Will for me, though I like the brigade level setting which is much bigger than the op is after.

Nick, I think you may have to go to 28mm or 15mm if you don't like the Minairons sculpts. I am not sure about any other available lines in 20mm scale.

I also like A World Aflame – like DeHewes I like the use of players' discretion.
As for non-Minairons figures, Irregular Miniatures have a large 20mm range and RH Models in the UK sells the Bandera Miniatures figures that are part of the HPC range. There is also a 20mm range by Warrior Miniatures that I have never seen. Personally I prefer Bandera and Minairons.

I would recommend Blitzkrieg Commander Rules. Hope it helps.

As always, comments are appreciated.

Take care
