Thinking of getting my toes wet with AWI. I'd like to start with a few boxes of Perry or Warlord miniatures (or some metals, I'm not picky) to do some AWI skirmish gaming with something like Muskets and Tomahawks. If those early games go well and players are still interested, I'd expand to larger battles using Black Powder, British Grenadier, etc.

Are there unit types that work as singly based figs in multiple scales of rules set? I was thinking of Colonial Militia and Indians, but not sure about British uniformed skirmishers. Totally new to the period and trying to get up to speed quickly.

Thanks!

I'd do Light Infantry on single bases. Not Militia. They tended to fight in clumps. Indians for certain. Also Johnson's Legion

Militia for Lexington and Concord type scenarios could be based individually. I am quite sure when they chased the British back to Boston they were not in "clumps"
the Green Mountain Boys could be based as individuals as well, the fought in the woods. Morgan's riflemen, American light infantry for later in the war. Any Continentals chosen as "picked men" could be based individually.

Back-country loyalists and Hessian Jaegers.

All of them. I play a Sword and the Flame variant.

Agreed, all. All my AWI figures are individually based.

All my 28mm AWI figures are singly based and are grouped on sabot bases for rules like Sharp Practice or Black Powder.

My 12mm AWI figures are grouped on 40x20 mm bases.
