Very nice – I am so leaning towards 1/72 Napoleonics for my 2019 project……

Mateus10 Jul 2018 5:15 a.m. PST

@Prof Pate, I base my cavalry in 6 bases per unit, each base 5cm x 5cm, holding 3 riders, for a total strength of 18 riders per unit.

@Torokchar, 1/72 can look very good, if painted with care. I used 6 boxes to build all these cuirassiers, each box costing an average of £ 5.00. Hard to beat that in any other scale!

Torok – go for it, 1/72 is a great scale. Widely available, and a great range (for Naps and WW2 especially). As Mateus continues to show, they paint up well, and (in my not so humble opinion) have more tabletop presence than 15s, without taking up the space of 28s.

And if plastics don't appeal, there is a wide selection of incredibly detailed metals available.

Thanks Mateus, does each base represent a 'weak/campaign' squadron?

I ask because I am thinking four or five field squadrons each three or four figures. More typically four for heavy Cav and threes for hussar/horse jagers/Uhlans.

Stressing I am considering Russian organisation, not Austrian which I am unfamiliar with.

I treat each unit as a full regiment of cavalry, so individual bases have no value on their own, though we could say that in the case of regiments that comprised 6 squadrons, each of my bases would be representing 1 such squadron.

Still, in the scale I play, individual cavalry squadrons are not relevant.

Wow…impressive! That's a real impact, awesome!
